A walk around Malmo, again a nice Scandanavian city, and a stop-off for a coffee reminded me how lucky we Brits are that most people in shops in the cities abroad speak English. Without this we’d be lost. It’s often said that we are a bit lazy because we know we’ll get by with a local English speaker close by, but I think I am excused from learning 15 languages….?
My next destination was Brandenburg Park just outside of Berlin – a long drive and no direct route because of the Baltic Sea. So, I decided to go back over to Denmark and then catch a ferry for a big shortcut (look at a road map and you will see). The cost is treble the other bridge in Denmark but there is a big saving in time and petrol.
The ferry is great – one of the windiest I’ve ever been on (even more than the one to a Scottish island) and with one of the roughest seas but gave some great views between the two countries.
Unfortunately there was a big traffic jam once that was done at but once I got past that at about 5.30pm it was a simple matter of about 400km to get to Berlin. Needless to say I am now at the hotel and will explore tomorrow!
